A woman who drove without valid insurance was sentenced to four months in prison, banned for driving for six years and fined €250 at Kilkenny District Court.
Elysia Drew, Adelphi House, Gardiner Street Lower, Dublin 1 was convicted of having no insurance, to driving without a licence and to failing to give information to gardaí at the Bennettsbridge Road, Kilkenny on August 29.
On the date in question gardaí were on patrol when they observed a vehicle been driven by the defendant. Following enquiries gardaí established that there was no active insurance on the vehicle.
The defendant, who was driving the vehicle gave false details to gardaí. The defendant was disqualified from driving at the time and there was a warrant in place for her arrest. The defendant was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
Gardaí also seized a plastic, foil-lined bag in the back seat of the vehicle which they believed was going to be used in the commission of the theft offences. The defendant has 27 previous convictions.
