Court told drug offence is Kilkenny woman’s 70th conviction

A woman with 69 previous convictions has been handed down her first conviction on a drugs offence, at Kilkenny District Court.

Linda Middleton, 4 Ashwood House, Millennium Court, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to a charge of being in illegal possession of drugs on November 21, 2023, at Kilkenny Garda Station.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor said Ms Middleton was searched while in garda custody and a ‘white substance’ was discovered. It was tested and was positive for amphetamines.
The sergeant said it was a small amount.

Ms Middleton had 69 previous convictions, but no drug convictions.

Solicitor Chris Hogan asked the court to give credit to his client for pleading guilty at the earlier opportunity. Mr Hogan said Ms Middleton is in the process of turning her life around, she had struggled a bit but is hoping to get a residential treatment place.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Ms Middleton and imposed a fine of €150.
