A motorist who was spotted “swerving left to right” on the main Kilkenny City to Callan road has been convicted of drink driving.
Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told a sitting of Kilkenny District Court that on November 22, 2025, a garda observed a vehicle on the N76 at Tullamaine.
The garda followed the car to Callan where it turned left off the main road on to West Street then suddenly right on to Chapel Lane.

The garda stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Mark Stanley, of Tubrid, Woodsgift, Urlingford.
Mr Stanley’s speech was slurred. He was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where a breath test showed a level of 59 mcg of alcohol per 100 mls of breath.
He had no previous convictions.
Solicitor Alexander Rafter said his client pleaded guilty.
He had thought he was ok to drive home. When he was stopped he got out of the car and immediately apologised to the garda. He was co-operative.
Mr Stanley, the court was told, is 20 and a college student.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Stanley of drink driving and fined him €200. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
