A man who used threatening, insulting or abusive behaviour to members of the public has been fined by Kilkenny District Court.

Christopher Doyle, 31 Spencer Dock, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court heard that on November 2, 2025, gardaí were called to Upper John Street, shortly after 8pm, with a report there was an “altercation” between two people. On arrival they met Mr Doyle. There was a strong smell of alcohol from him and his speech was slurred. He was using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour towards a female and members of the public. Mr Doyle was arrested.

Solicitor Alex Rafter said his client was deeply apologetic and remorseful. Mr Doyle was visiting Kilkenny. He had not had a drink since the 1980s and had too much on this occasion. He is 57 years old, is now re-engaging with AA and doing well.

Judge Fiona Brennan ordered Mr Doyle to pay €150 to the Court Poor Box and dismissed the charge under the Probation Act.
