Kilkenny gardaí have renewed their warning that certain e-scooters remain illegal for use in public places, saying owners risk seizure, destruction of the vehicle and a court appearance if caught...
Kilkenny gardaí have reiterated that certain types of e-scooters are not legal for use in public places after another machine was seized in the city.
In a post on social media, An Garda Síochána Kilkenny said another e-scooter was seized yesterday, following one seizure last Wednesday and three the previous day.
The force stressed that the scooters "were never legal for use in a public place in this jurisdiction".
Gardaí also said that while the Government is discussing the implementation of new controls for e-scooters, that will not change the legal status of the machines already deemed illegal.
They warned owners that using one in a public place is likely to result in the scooter being seized, destroyed and the rider appearing before the courts to answer a charge of having no insurance.
According to the post, the value of the machines seized over the past week exceeds €4,000.
Gardaí said the scooters will likely be destroyed unless their owners are successful in an application to the District Court.
The post concluded with a warning to the public: "Save your money, save the court appearance."
