Tributes have flooded in following the death of Mary Egan (née Murphy) of Ballykeeffe, Cuffesgrange, Kilkenny.

Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Tuesday, 10 December.

A woman who was heavily involved in her local community, many have taken to share their condolences with Mary's family online as well as express their admiration and fondness for her.

On her RIP.ie notice, one person wrote: "Mary was a wonderful lady. It was a pleasure to visit her in Ballykeeffe where you were guaranteed a warm welcome along with that infectious smile and she always ready for a chat."

Another shared: "She was an exceptional lady, always so chatty and upbeat. She put her heart and soul into everything she did. Her ability to chat to young and old made everyone in her company feel valued."

In a tribute on behalf of the School of the Holy Spirit on the Callan Road, Ann-Marie Butler wrote: "She took a keen interest in the life of our school, baked a yearly Christmas cake for our fundraiser and even played the part of Mrs. Claus on a few occasions with Fr. Martin Delaney. Her interest was never taken for granted and always appreciated. RIP Mary after a long and happy life."

Mary will be reposing at Molloy’s Funeral Home in Callan on Friday, 13 December from 3pm. Rosary and Vigil Prayers will take place at 6.30pm followed by removal to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Kilmanagh.

Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, 14 December, at 11am with burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ballykeeffe.
