A Kilkenny Macra club has taken one of the top honours in the ‘highlight’ of the organisation’s calendar.
The FBD National Capers Final took place on January 31 in Ovens, Co. Cork, hosted by Muskerry Macra, where seven clubs from across the country delivered an outstanding evening of music, drama, dance and comedy.

Along with Callan Macra, participating clubs were Bantry Macra, Freemount Macra, Mountmellick Macra, Kinsale Macra, Kilmeen Macra and Waterfall Macra.
After a highly competitive final, Freemount Macra was announced as overall winner, with Callan Macra in second place and Mountmellick Macra in third.
Category winners were:
Best Female Performer: Moira Dineen, Freemount Macra.
Best Male Performer: Michael Lawlor, Callan Macra.
Best Act: Freemount Macra – Pub Scene,
Best Producer: Aoife O’Connor, Freemount Macra.
Macra President Josephine O’Neill, who is from Bennettsbridge and a member of Callan Macra, described Capers as “a true highlight of the Macra calendar.”
Ms O’Neill also acknowledged the weeks of preparation involved and the courage required to perform at national level.
Ms O’Neill thanked long-time sponsor FBD for its continued support, noting that competitions such as Capers play a vital role in supporting the personal development of members.
She also expressed her appreciation to the judges, the Macra National Competitions Committee and staff, and hosts Muskerry Macra for their work in delivering the event, and congratulated all seven teams for their commitment both on stage and behind the scenes.
