The Rower Inistioge Club Executive has taken the decision to honour Eddie Keher by commissioning a bronze statue in honour of his incredible hurling legacy.

Keher played his first senior championship appearance was in the 1959 All-Ireland final replay against Waterford and went on to play a key part for Kilkenny over several seasons winning six All-Ireland medals, ten Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals.

"Eddie is widely regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time," a club spokesperson said.

"This project aims to recognise his achievements and his lasting connection to our club and community," they continued.

"To progress the project, a sub-committee was established under the chairmanship of Jim Dunphy. This committee has met regularly over the past number of months and significant progress has now been made.

"We are approaching the stage where a planning application will be submitted for the proposed statue, which is intended to be located on Club grounds near the pedestrian access to the GAA pitch in Inistioge," they continued.

In advance of the planning submission, a public briefing will take place on Tuesday, February 9 at 8pm in Cois Abhann.
