Funding totalling €38,000 has been announced for Tidy Towns groups across Kilkenny.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has thanked all the groups for their work as she announced the grants, which will benefit almost 900 groups all over Ireland.

Individual grants of between €1,000 and €4,000 have been allocated to 27 Tidy Towns groups in County Kilkenny, in both rural areas and the city.
The Kilkenny City is the biggest beneficiary, having been allocated €4,000.

Grants of €2,000 each will go to Tidy Towns groups in Castlecomer, Gowran, Mooncoin, Urlingford, Ballyragget, Thomastown, Callan and Glenmore.

Further grants of €1,000 each have been announced for Tidy Towns groups in Gathabawn, Clogh, Dungarvan, Tullahought, Windgap, Coon, Dunamaggin, Listerlin, Moneenroe, Inistioge, Johnstown, Kells, Paulstown, Freshford, Goresbridge, Bennettsbridge, Stoneyford/ Ennisnag and Kilmoganny.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick, has welcomed the funding announcement.
“I would like to welcome this Tidy Towns funding to the amazing groups of volunteers in every town and village, working together within their community to ensure that their areas are always best presented,” he said.

Announcing the grants, last week, Minister Heather Humphreys said she has written to all Tidy Towns groups across the country and thanked them for their work and dedication to their community.
“The efforts of the thousands of volunteers make our towns more vibrant and better places to live, work and raise a family,” she said.

“The funding of between €1,000 and €4,000 is being provided to groups to assist them in preparing for the 2023 competition, the 65th anniversary of the SuperValu TidyTowns competition, but no sign of retirement on it – it’s stronger it’s getting.

“I am encouraging groups availing of the funding to look at projects for their green spaces and parks, and projects that are sensitive to our biodiversity and promote sustainable living. I am confident that this funding can help further support such initiatives.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the thousands and thousands of TidyTowns volunteers that have given of their time and skills so generously over the years.
“I am confident that the funding provided by my Department in recent years, in addition to (this) funding, has made and will continue to make, a real difference in the towns and villages of Ireland.”
