Kilkenny gardaí left with 'no choice' as slew of fines issued

Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit issued eight fixed charge penalty notices on Wednesday evening to motorists using the hatch markings on approach to the Bennettsbridge Roundabout as an overtaking lane.

"No choice on this one. This is an 80 euro fine and one penalty point," a garda spokesperson said.

"At this location, motorists who are obeying the rules of the road are endangered by people using this area as an overtake and indeed a lane.

"Whether we like or don't like a road layout, regulations need to be followed so other road users are not endangered.

"We did not use an unmarked vehicle for this and many drivers actually overtook the patrol car illegally to complete their manoeuvre.

"Pictured is one of the many vehicles pulling away subsequent to receiving a notice."
