Abbott Ireland lodge exciting new plans to expand Kilkenny site

Abbott Ireland have lodged a planning application with Kilkenny County Council for an extension of the existing industrial building  (for the purpose of medical device manufacturing) at their Kilkenny IDA Business and Technology Park site.

The application includes alterations to the vehicular entrance and car park in the southeastern portion of the site along with a  proposed extension of the industrial building.

The extension to the building will accommodate additional medical device manufacturing floor space, corridors, and service areas. PV arrays will be provided at roof level.

These plans could potentially open a new chapter in the international business' relationship with the city and county.

In November 2024, Abbott opened its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility locally with a ceremony attended by the then An Taoiseach, Simon Harris and Abbott Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Ford.

Permission is also sought for various other ancillary works and a decision is expected by February 24, 2026.
