A much-loved Kilkenny cat named Minka was rescued recently after spending a few days seemingly stuck in the ceiling/roof of Dunnes Stores in MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre.
Minka’s owner, Barbara Čibej, said her beloved pet went missing on January 30 and was later sighted in the ceiling space in Dunnes Stores, but that staff and security were unable to safely reach her.

Efforts to retrieve Minka continued over several nights, and Barbara took to social media to thank staff at Dunnes Stores for their effort and assistance throughout.
“I am very grateful to the many people that stayed after hours at the store to assist with the search,” she said.
“It was a big effort from everyone involved — the lovely security that have been helping me every night, the Dunnes staff, the store managers, and the regional manager that drove all the way from Gorey.

“And also a big thank you to Denise and Marie who have come to support us. And thanks to all you lovely people in the comments who have either given suggestions or offered words of support.”
New Hope Cat Rescue also attended the scene to see if they could assist, and commended the staff at Dunnes for the way they applied themselves to the rescue effort.
After a number of days, and numerous tactics, Minka was finally found “on the ground, sitting under one of the clothes racks”.

It is believed the feline found a way to make her own way down from the ceiling fixtures, much to the delight of Barbara and everyone involved.
“I am so incredibly grateful to all the folks involved, to all the staff at Dunnes MacDonagh, who have either been trying to get her to safety, or even just kept an eye on her during the day,” Barbara said.
“Everyone there was so invested in getting her home safe. And a special thanks to three amazing ladies that have offered me immense support in the past couple of days — thank you Denise, Marie, and Edwina!”
