The old grain/seed store in Kilkenny City (Left)
The owner of the old grain/seed store on Coote’s Lane in the city has confirmed that planning permission is being sought from the local authority for the development of short term tourist accommodation on the site.
The future of the building has created much debate and concern among local residents in recent weeks with a group from the area holding a public meeting.
Manson Development Ltd lodged the application for the construction of three storeys with nine shared bedrooms and one open plan dormitory.

The widening of adjoining roadway, a proposed pedestrian crossing and a new walkway are among the other plans in the pipeline.
A minor fire was reported in the building last month but no significant damage occurred.
Owner Denis Dalton has stated no other uses for the building are planned and the application is strictly for tourist accommodation.
An estimated €100,000 has been spent on re-purposing the building including a new roof and insulation.
