Danesfort’s success on the field is reflected in the pride and unity that shines through the entire community Picture: Willie Dempsey
Dear Editor,
As someone who moved to Kilkenny for work and is a relative newcomer to the county, I have been genuinely struck by Danesfort’s recent achievements in winning both the Kilkenny intermediate championship and the Leinster intermediate club final.
For several years, during my daily commute through the parish, I have frequently observed something remarkable. I have noticed local residents taking the time to mow grass, trim hedges, and maintain the main route into the city with great care.
These individuals appear to be volunteers and, to an outsider, this reflects positively on the character of the community.
It is hard not to see a direct link between that civic pride and the culture that has now produced such success on the field. The spirit I have observed from the roadside seems to be the same spirit driving the club forward.
Sunday week last captured it perfectly: Paul Murphy lifting the cup in honour of his late father, and Richie Hogan returning to make a significant impact — moments that would inspire anyone. Coming just a day after the opening of their superb new facilities, it felt like a community reaching a well-earned high point.
Danesfort is indeed a parish and club that carries itself with pride and unity - a community whose spirit shines just as brightly on and off the field.
Their success is richly deserved - congratulations to all concerned.
Yours,
Paul Ronan
