Freda the German Shepherd given a chance after fourteen weeks at shelter in Kilkenny

A German Shepherd dog that was being cared for at Carlow-Kilkenny Dog Shelter for fourteen weeks has finally found a person willing and able to give her the chance she deserves.

The story of Freda is one of the many successful and heartening stories shared by the shelter in recent weeks after a challenging few months.

The drive of the staff to reopen the shelter as quickly as possible when it has been forced to temporarily close has been evident during that period, as has been their resolve to find suitable homes for even the most demanding of dogs.

With Freda, she required an adult-only home with no other dogs and a large enclosed garden space with owners who would be willing to put work into training her and had suitable 'big breed' experience.

She was getting stressed in the kennels and it was becoming hugely important for staff to reach out on all avenues to find her a forever home.

On Valentine's Day, and after spending 14 weeks at the shelter, she finally got a rescue space, the next step in finding her forever home.
