Exciting plans being fine-tuned for new community park in Kilkenny

The land, which includes existing sports pitches and a clubhouse, was transferred to the council in late 2023

Kilkenny County Council has taken the first step in creating a new community-focused park in Ferrybank, with a public consultation held earlier this month.

The proposed development is set for a 9.5 acre greenfield site in Christendom, South Kilkenny.

The land, which includes existing sports pitches and a clubhouse, was transferred to the council in late 2023 by the trustees of Clover Meats, with the condition that it be used solely for community recreation.

The council has appointed a multidisciplinary team of landscape architects and engineers to draft a masterplan for the park.

Their aim is to develop a high-quality, multifunctional space that serves the needs of the people in the locality.

The first public consultation took place on Thursday, May 1, at the Ferrybank Primary Care Centre.

Approximately 50 - 60 people attended to share their views on how the site should be developed.

In the coming weeks, the design team will review the feedback and refine the project brief.

This includes clarifying the potential role of any new building proposed for the site.

Topographical and ecological surveys have been commissioned and will be completed shortly.

These studies, along with community input, will shape the early design process.

Once the brief is finalised, the design team plan to begin work on initial design proposals, which will be presented at a second public consultation event.
