Waterford gardaí were forced to take decisive legal action a short distance over the border in Kilkenny.
A motorist failed to observe the speed limits on the Main Street in Mooncoin on Sunday night, driving at 85kmph in a 50kmph zone.
"Fine and penalty points to follow," a garda spokesperson said.
The South Kilkenny area falls within Waterford City Community Engagement Area.
