Emergency services rush four people to hospital following crash in Kilkenny

Four people were rushed to hospital yesterday (Wednesday) following a road traffic collision in South Kilkenny.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving cars, at Piltown, County Kilkenny, that occurred at approximately 5.20pm.

The female driver (aged in her 70s) and male passenger (aged in his 80s) of one of the cars were conveyed to University Hospital Waterford, for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Two female passengers of the second car (aged in their teens and 50s) were conveyed to University Hospital Waterford, for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a fresh plea has been made to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) requesting that they undertake a review of two major road junctions in South Kilkenny that continue to cause issues in the local community.

Councillor Pat Dunphy raised the issue at the most recent meeting of Piltown Municipal District, which was held at the Rhu Glenn Hotel near Slieverue in South Kilkenny last Wednesday.

Cllr Dunphy raised further concerns over the New Aglish and Rathkieran junctions on the N24 (which connects Mooncoin and Grannagh).

Speaking to Kilkenny Live after the meeting, Cllr Pat Dunphy stated that there are 'ongoing accidents' at both junctions.

He stated that the most recent accident occurred at the New Aglish junction and stated that it 'was lucky that somebody wasn't killed'.
