It was a busy day for gardaí in Clare who made several seizures and an arrest after coming across a car that had run out of fuel.

Recently, a member of the public alerted the Roads Polcing Unit to a vehicle which seemed to be abandoned on a fly over of the motorway.

After carrying out enquries, it was determined that the driver of this car had run out of fuel. However, he also had no licence or insurance, resulting in the car and a trailer being seized.

Following this, a friend drove to the area to pick up the stranded driver, where it was discovered that he too had no insurance on his vehicle. He did have a licence that was found to be fake and so, this car was also seized.

While waiting for the tow truck near the Killow East Roundabout, members of the Roads Policing Unit then stopped a passing car due to conerns regarding the level of tint on the windows. The driver, a man, was subsequently arrested after failing a drugwipe test for amphetamines.

Commenting on the seizures and arrest, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in the county said, "Sometimes the simplest thing can lead to good results, in this case a simple concern about a car lead to two uninsured and one drug driver taken off the road, making it safer for everyone."
