Met Éireann issue status orange and yellow weather warnings as heavy rainfall expected

Met Éireann have issued a series of weather updates for the country over the weekend including status orange and yellow rain warnings which are set to affect a number of counties. 

A status orange rain warning was issued for Cork and Kerry on Saturday morning. This will come into effect at 3am in the early hours of Sunday morning and last until 6pm Sunday evening. 

Met Éireann have also revealed that there will be significant rainfall accumulations especially on high round with the highest totals expected in Kerry and West Cork. 

Potential impacts from the status orange warning for these counties consist of significant river and surface water flooding, hazardous travelling conditions and poor visibility.

A status yellow rain warning will begin on Saturday evening from 6pm until Monday at 12am with caution advised for five counties as a result. These include Clare, Cork, Kerry, Donegal and Limerick as well as a general warning throughout the province of Connacht. 

Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford have also been issued with a status yellow rain warning which will be valid from 12am on Sunday to 3am on Monday. 

Each of these status yellow warnings are expected to bring spells of heavy rain which could lead to an increased risk of flooding due to high river levels and saturated ground.

Met Éireann have outlined the likely impacts from these warnings which include river and surface flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.
