Gardai have arrested a driver just one day after Christmas who was speeding over 200km/h on a busy motorway in a black Audi with three major faults.

The vehicle had a bald tyre, illegally tinted windows and it also had no silencer on the exhaust system.

An Garda Siochana in Wexford detected the driver speeding at 163km/h on the M11 at Gorey on St Stephens Day, December 26.

The driver was in an Audi who then continued to drive in excess of 200km/h for about 22km on the M11 before exiting the motorway, where it was subsequently stopped by Gardaí.

Gardai said that the driver underwent a roadside oral fluid drug test, which returned a negative result and he was arrested at the scene for the offence of dangerous driving.
During an examination of the vehicle, Gardaí identified multiple serious defects, including:
• A bald tyre
• Illegally tinted windows
• No silencer on the exhaust system
The vehicle was seized under Road Traffic legislation as it had been used in a dangerous manner.
The driver now faces multiple charges before the District Court.
Gardai have appealed for the owner of the vehicle to apply to the court for its return; otherwise, the vehicle may be disposed of.
