RIP: Two teenagers killed, three injured in early-morning road crash in County Mayo

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after two teenage boys were killed in an early-morning road crash in County Mayo.

They say the single-vehicle collision happened close to Ballina shortly after 4.15am on Sunday.

"Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car on a local road (L5140) at Laghtadawannagh near Ballina. Two of the car’s occupants, both adult males in their late teens, were pronounced deceased at the scene," said a spokesperson.

Three other occupants of the car —two males in their mid teens and one adult female in her late teens —were transported by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardai say the local Coroner has been notified and that post-mortem examinations will be conducted in due course.

Motorists are being advised the road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions currently in place.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, from the area around the time are asked to make it available.
