Luxembourg Ambassador visits Kilkenny City school

Kilkenny City Vocational School was delighted to welcome Minister for Heritage, Malcolm Noonan and the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Florence Ensch, to the school today.

 The Minister and the Ambassador were warmly welcomed to the school by members of the School Student Council, school teachers and Assistant Principal Linda McCormack. 

The Minister and the Ambassador visited the school on International Europe Day, a day every year that celebrates peace and unity across Europe for all citizens.  

The students heard from both the Minister and the Ambassador on the significance of Europe Day and what it means to be a European Citizen. 

The School’s Green School Committee then had the opportunity to present to both the Minister and the Ambassador on their work to date with their initiative on energy conservation and their efforts to earn their seventh Green Schools flag for the school, which is an incredible achievement!

On the morning, the Kilkenny City Vocational School students were joined by the 5th class students from St. John’s Senior School to present to the Minister and the Ambassador on their collaborative project on Sustainable Tourism. 

The schools were selected to undertake this project through the DEIS School Excellence Initiative as the Kilkenny cluster.  There are four schools involved in the project, Kilkenny City Vocational School, St. John’s Senior School, St. Patrick’s De La Salle and Duiske College, Graignamanagh. 

this project the students are researching the difference between urban tourism in Kilkenny City and rural tourist opportunities in Graignamanagh.  The focus of the project being how as a county we are promoting sustainability through tourism.   Both the Minister and the Ambassador were very interested to hear from the students on this project and would like to come back to hear more in future!
