Coláiste Pobail Osraí student Leila Brand (6th Year)
The talented musicians and singers of one Kilkenny city school have returned from a national competition with top class awards, continuing what has become an annual tradition!
Coláiste Pobail Osraí students Ruaidhrí Ó Deá (3rd Year) and Leila Brand (6th Year) came away resounding winners in their categories in the recent, annual ‘Scléip’ Music Competition.
This competition, run by Gael Linn, allows students in Irish-medium schools across the country to compete in a range of categories.
This year, there were 23 schools taking part in the overall competition.
Coláiste Pobail Osraí has traditionally done well in the competition with big wins in the past number of years with acts such as The Donnys, Salann Mín, and Stephanie Nic Giolla Phádraig taking home prizes.
This year proved no different with both Ruaidhrí and Leila qualifying for the All-Ireland final of the prestigious competition, having sailed through their categories at the semi-final last November with flying colours, amid stiff competition.
Both students competed in the solo instrumental category and both played pieces on the piano.
Both Ruaidhrí and Leila won their individual competitions and were highly praised by the judges during the final on Wednesday, February 5.
What an achievement for them both!
They were supported on the day of the final, at the Helix Theatre in Dublin, by teachers Siobhán Ní Fhearghaíl and Gráinne Sabhaois as well as a proud group of fellow students. The whole school community is very proud of Ruaidhrí and Leila’s achievements.
Comhghairdeas leo!
