More than 1,650 families in Kilkenny to receive back to school clothing and footwear allowance

It will benefit 3,447 families across Carlow and Kilkenny with the cost of things like school uniforms, footwear, and the general cost of getting children back to school
Almost 3,500 families across Carlow and Kilkenny will receive back to school clothing and footwear allowance.
The Back-to-School Clothing and Footwear allowance is an annual payment made to families across the country to help parents and households with the cost of school uniforms and shoes. The annual payment will benefit 1,796 families in Carlow, and 1,651 families in Kilkenny bringing the total to 3,447 across our constituency.
Local TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has welcomed the news.
“I am thrilled to hear from Minister Calleary this morning that the back-to-school clothing and footwear allowance is being rolled out,” he said.
“It will benefit 3,447 families across Carlow and Kilkenny with the cost of things like school uniforms, footwear, and the general cost of getting children back to school. This initiative has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and is a critical tool to helping families with the cost of sending their children back to school.
The Fianna Fail TD went on to say permanent cost of living measures need to and are being prioritised by government ahead of Budget 2027.
“I am acutely aware of the challenges families and households face during the current climate with the cost of living, and government is unequivocal in our efforts to reducing the impact of the cost of living for families permanently. Not just for now, but into the future too,” he said.
