Dicksboro booked their spot in the JJ Kavanagh and Sons under-21 semi-finals following a good win over city rivals O’Loughlin Gaels in St John’s Park.
The city derby failed to spark into life at any point as the men in maroon led from start to finish in a dominant display.
O’Loughlin Gaels did find form in the second quarter of the second half but left themselves with too much to do as the Dicksboro backs kept the O’Loughlins forwards quiet.
The ’Boro raced into a 0-6 to 0-2 advantage by the 11th minute with points from Mikey Stynes (inset), Aran Treacy and Evan Murphy cancelling out a brace of points by Alex Sheridan.
Dicksboro’s stranglehold on the contest continued as the half went by and bagged four of the next five scores in the following 11 minutes as Mikey Stynes continued his fine striking from frees.
Two late Alex Sheridan frees and a point courtesy of Sean Maher meant at the break Dicksboro led by 0-11 to 0-5.
O’Loughlin Gaels improved in the second 30 minutes of the match, narrowly losing the second half 0-6 to 0-5 as Dicksboro failed to replicate their periods of dominance with a monumental score.
The ’Boro did however begin the second half very much like the first, with three of the opening four points.
Dry patch
The match hit a five minute dry patch before O’Loughlin Gaels found some momentum ten minutes into the half.
Alex Molloy and John McNamara joined Alex Sheridan on the scoresheet to leave the scoreline at 0-13 to 0-8 after 22 minutes.
Dicksboro did finish strongly with three points from Mikey Stynes and despite two late frees from Alex Sheridan it wasn’t to be for the home side as Dicksboro ran out 0-17 to 0-10 winners.
