Unusual referee decision in Kilkenny club match has 'major bearing' on result

The Junior Section B League Final was played on Sunday afternoon
A decision by referee Brandon Power before the resumption of play for the second half had a major bearing on the final result as Lisdowney claimed the Junior B title.
Having decided that the James Stephens players exceeded the allotted half-time rest period the referee threw in the sliotar before the Village players resumed their positions on the field allowing Lisdowney to register an uncontested 1-1, turning a 0-10 to 0-8 deficit into a 1-9 to 0-10 lead.
James Stephens fought back and in the 38th minute recovered the lead when Bill McDermott goaled (1-13 to 1-11). Between the 44th and 52nd minutes Lisdowney hit a rich patch, hitting 1-5. The Village had scores from Fionn Cody, Conor Heffernan (2), Conor McEvoy and sub Ross Whelan, but Lisdowney countered with two late scores to win by 2-18 to 1-19.
