Lot 30 - COLLECTION OF FOUR EARLY KILKENNY STREET SCENES - LAWRENCE COLLECTION

A fine set of four original photographic prints from the esteemed Lawrence Collection, each depicting a prominent Kilkenny street view from the late 19th or early 20th century.

These framed images capture the architecture, signage, horse-drawn transport, and daily life of the era with remarkable clarity and composition.

Views include High Street bustling with activity; Patrick Street with elegant facades and distant church spire; Ormonde Street with period shopfronts; and a second dynamic image of High Street featuring a prominent tower and gaslight.

Each print is captioned with its original series number.

The legacy of Cork collector Denis Wilson will also be honoured this week as Sheppard’s Irish Auction House hosts its Great Irish Interiors Auction in Durrow, County Laois.

Mr Wilson, who resided in Montenotte, was a passionate collector of art and antiquities. His daughter, Fiona Shaw, best known for her acting career, has spoken movingly about his deep appreciation for beauty and history.

A standout piece from his estate is Lot 343, a rare 19th-century portfolio of Views of Cork Harbour and the River Lee by Henry Morgan. The 24 lithographs, published in Exeter, depict Cork’s harbourscape, landmarks and river life in rich detail.

Public previews of the auction items ran from Saturday through to today (Monday) at Sheppard’s in Durrow (Eircode R32 FN88), with the auction itself scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
