A march and an arts and crafts event in support of Palestinians will be held

Kilkenny events in support of Palestine to take place this weekend

The march will take place this Saturday

The Kilkenny Community Palestine Solidarity Group (KCPSG) is calling on members of the public to join a peaceful march on Saturday, December 6 at 1pm, gathering at Kilkenny Castle, to demand urgent government action on the Occupied Territories Bill.

Speaking ahead of the march, KCPSG Chair Kevin Shore said: “The Government committed to progressing legislation to ban trade with illegal settlements, yet we are still waiting. The pre-legislative scrutiny of the bill was supported by the unanimous agreement of the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee in July which explicitly included services”.

“The recently leaked Attorney General’s advice from last year confirms what we already knew: There is no legal barrier preventing this legislation from moving forward. This was promised as a priority for September”.

“It is now December. Where is it? The people of Palestine cannot afford further delay, and neither can Ireland’s moral standing”, he added.

KCPSG says that the public’s continued pressure is essential in ensuring the Government fulfils its commitment to implement the bill as originally drafted, including all provisions covering both goods and services from illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In addition, the group is hosting a special arts and crafts event on Sunday, December 7 at the Set Theatre from 4pm. All proceeds will go directly to UNRWA to support civilians in Gaza, many of whom continue to endure starvation and humanitarian crises despite the ceasefire.

The event will feature unique artworks and hand-crafted jewellery, ideal Christmas gifts that support both local creators and urgent humanitarian relief efforts.

Kevin concluded that “this event offers people the chance to give gifts that truly matter this Christmas supporting families in Gaza who are still suffering daily”.
