Although deep in rehearsals and background preparations for the final show, Katelyn had time for a chat with the Kilkenny People, and said the support from her home county has been wonderful.
Rose of Tralee Katelyn was the Laois Rose when she took part in the international festival, but was quick to tell everyone she was from Kilkenny and that the communities in both counties have been amazing supporters to her.
It’s been quite the journey for Katelyn as she not only had to learn the dance moves for all her performances, but had to learn new ‘acting’ skills to bring a new persona to her performance every week. “It was very challenging, something I’m not used to,” Katelyn said. It took three or four weeks for her to be comfortable with expressing herself that way, but now, she said, she has learned to ‘flow with it.’
The whole process has seen Katelyn push herself outside her comfort zone and, along the way, her fans and viewers have gotten to know her well.
Every week Katelyn’s parents and her brother and sister have been in the audience to support her, and this week she hopes she might also bring along her granny.
“I’m really excited,” she said, looking forward to Sunday’s final. It will be a busy week, she explained, with a number of dances to perfect and pre-recorded pieces to film.
An important date on the schedule is Katelyn’s ‘homecoming’ to Ballyouskill on Wednesday. Along with Leonardo, she’ll be meeting her supporters at the local community hall at 4.30pm.
