Last October: A firefighter evacuating a student from St Colmcille’s National School in Inistioge after heavy rain caused flooding
A primary school in Kilkenny where the firebrigade had to rescue boys and girls, last year, after the grounds flooded, is set to see flood protection works carried out.
Local councillors have been told that work will be carried out at St Colmcille’s National School in Inistioge, to prevent a similar incident occurring.
Pupils at the school had to be carried out from their classrooms on the backs of members of Kilkenny Fire Service, from Thomastown and Graignamanagh, in October of last year, when the village flooded and blocked the path from the school to the main road.
At the recent meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District councillors Area Engineer Declan Murphy said Kilkenny County Council plan to carry out work near the school with Climate Action funding.
The work will be carried out before the end of November.
