Knockroe Passage Tomb features on the front of the calendar
A stunning calendar showcasing the ancient and historical sites of the Lingaun Valley has been produced Lingaun Valley Tourism and is proving to be a hit both at home and abroad.
Following the local and international success of The Loop Bus in showcasing the area during the summer months and the ongoing activities by Lingaun Valley Tourism it was decided to produce a calendar for the area.
The calendar features a wide range of photos from across the 5,000 year history of the valley by Pete Smith and includes the 1200- -year-old High Crosses of Western Ossory located in Ahenny, Killamery and Kilkieran. Also featuring in the calendar is Kilcash Castle famed in song and story, Túr Amharc, the viewing tower over Tullahought with the finest view of Slievenamon and the Lingaun Valley, Carrick Castle (the Manor House of Black Tom Butler fame) and Carraigmoclear the site of a planned uprising in 1798.
It also includes the Ormonde Slate Quarry where slates were mined for seven hundred years, the century old Calvary Grotto in Windgap and images of Slievenamon, including of the site where 50,000 nationalists met in 1848 and the source of the Lingaun River that marks county and provincial boundaries. The cover displays the areas most ancient gem of the dual solstice chambered Knockroe passage tomb.
The colourful calendar also contains a QR code to download an Augmented Reality App of some of the key sites and a time line on the map for all of the key sites. Individually packaged the production is suitable for posting to absent friends.
