Shock as popular Kilkenny business announces closure after more than a decade

After more than a decade tucked away in Kilkenny City, a vibrant restaurant/café has decided that it's time to close its doors.

Mocha's Vintage Tea Room & Restaurant, based in Gas House Lane, broke the news to followers on social media.

"26 years ago plans were underway to open our first premises which was our first Mocha in Dublin," the statement read.

"Fast forward a quarter of a century and Mocha’s Vintage Tea Rooms has resided on Gas House Lane for the past 13 years. End of an era and the start of a new one. It’s been an amazing adventure and it’s time for a change.

"Closing down sale now on… bring home a piece of vintage nostalgia at a bargain price! Call in for a browse. We look forward to seeing you soon. We will be open this week 11am to 3pm daily.

"Get a vintage bargain while they last!!! We want to thank our wonderful customers and staff over the years… for the memories and the chats and the laughter and even the tears, you’re all part of our story over the decades.

Reacting to the news, one previous customer stated: "The tea rooms is [sic] such a lovely, cosy spot and I'll miss calling in to see you there, but I know you will bring your fantastic personalities and drive to whatever comes next and make a huge success of that too. Wishing you both the very best for the future xx"

Another posted: "Thank you both for the memories. We had some of most enjoyable moments in there. Im gutted you're [sic] era is coming to and end. I would like to wish you good health and happiness for the future."

A separate patron stated that the business was "always my favourite Saturday morning breakfast spot, with great music, decor and company."
