Works to improve safety for pedestrians in Callan are underway.
Just before Christmas work began at Flaggy Lane on pedestrian paths.
This work will continue in the new year. Ultimately the plan will see a reversal of the direction of flow for vehicles, reduction of the carriageway width and provision of a concrete surface on Flaggy Lane to be shared by vulnerable road users.
There will also be a reduction of the carriageway width at the Flaggy Lane/ Haggardsgreen junction.
Pedestrians in the town centre will also welcome plans for pedestrian crossings at the West Street/ Green Street junction.
At Callan Thomastown Municipal District, Area Engineer Declan Murphy said that the plan being drawn up for the area will see pedestrian crossings at Mill Street, Green Street and West Street. These will be ramped.
District Chairman, Cllr Matt Doran, welcomed the opportunity to make the junction safer for pedestrians, especially the visually impaired.
The work is being funded under the Active Travel plan.
