Tributes have been paid following the sad death of beloved family man and retired soldier, Sgt Michael (Mick) Butler.
Sgt Michael, late of 64 Dublin Road, Tullow, co Carlow and formerly of 5 St. John’s Place, Gowran, co Kilkenny, passed away on Saturday July 12, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a long illness bravely borne
He is predeceased by his loving parents Nellie and Joe.

Michael will be so sadly missed by his loving wife Eilis, son Brian, daughter Joan, grandson Aidan, son-in-law Stephen, daughter-in-law Judith, sister Josie, brothers Martin, Noel and Pat, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Heartfelt condolences have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Michael, with one mourner writing,
"Our deepest condolences on the sad passing of Mick, a gentleman, a great family man, a kind friend and a brave soldier till the very end. God bless you and keep all at this sad time."
Another wrote,
"Our sincerest condolences to Eilis, Joan & Brian on the sad passing of Mick, it was a pleasure to have known him. He took such great pleasure in his service, his participation in the 1798 commemorations and was such a great fundraiser for O.N.E. May you take comfort in your memories and the fondness others had for Sgt. Butler."
While another wrote,
"An absolute gentleman.. rest easy Mick. He travelled all of Carlow with us at underage for hurling and football matches, great man to have a chat with over the years."

Funeral Arrangements
Reposing at Halligan’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Tullow (Eircode R93 TX99) on Tuesday from 4pm with removal at 7pm to his residence for private reposal.
Funeral arriving to The Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Tullow on Thursday for 11am Requiem Mass after which he will be laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Tullow.
Donations in lieu of flowers to Irish Kidney Association.
House is requested private at all times please.
