Kilkenny gardaí take action following incident with 12 year old in city centre

Kilkenny gardaí seized an e-scooter from a 12-year-old during a Rás na mBan traffic operation

Two members of the Garda Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were carrying out traffic duties when the young person approached them on an e-scooter.

Gardaí said the rider was not wearing a helmet or high-visibility clothing, while the machine was capable of reaching speeds of up to 30km/h.

The e-scooter was subsequently seized under Section 109A of the Road Traffic Act.

Gardaí said the machine will only be returned following a successful application to the District Court.

The incident comes as gardaí continue to highlight road safety concerns surrounding the use of e-scooters and other electric vehicles.
