Mary Hilda Cavanagh (Fine Gael)
Mary Hilda Cavanagh is the country’s longest serving female councillor, joining Kilkenny County Council in 1974, serving two terms as Chairperson.

“When I was first elected to Kilkenny County Council, I promised my constituents that I would work hard for them. I have fulfilled that promise.

“I work tirelessly for what I believe to be the best interests of the people I serve,” said the North Kilkenny councillor.
“I am honest, committed and passionate about local government. I am fearless in speaking up for people. I am consistent in defending the people I represent,” she added.

Farming and education are two of Cllr Cavanagh’s great interests.
“I am a member of the IFA, former vice chairperson of the Co Committee of Agriculture and I farm with my husband Eddie and my son Brian.

“I have served on the VEC/ETB for 50 years and am currently chairperson of the Board of Management of Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown and a member of the Board of Management of Castlecomer Community School.

“I served on the Board of Governors of UCD and was Vice Chairman of WIT (now SETU) and I am a member for over 30 years. I was chairperson of Kilkenny County Council on three occasions and vice chairperson twice.
“If elected, I will continue to be a powerful, hardworking and strong experienced voice for my constituents,” added Cllr Cavanagh.
