Councillors in the Castlecomer Municipal District have renewed their calls for additional funding and ‘man power’ in the wake of treacherous weather conditions in recent months.
Flooding left a number of households and businesses in difficulty during the adverse weather and despite much of the damage taking place in southern parts of the county, councillors in the area are adamant more government supports are required in the district.
"We have to face reality here, our area office is understaffed," local Fine Gael councillor, John Brennan remarked at the meeting.

"The infrastructure (in the area) is not fit for purpose,” he said, adding, “we need extra funding and man power. We’re running around in circles and going nowhere fast," he concluded.
Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick of Fianna Fáil shared similar concerns, stating, "We have the largest section of road network in Kilkenny in the Castlecomer Municipal District.
"We need extra staff and funding. It has to come from the national purse," he argued.
Cathaoirleach of the municipal district and Freshford native, Cllr Michael McCarthy, highlighted the need for a flood relief scheme in the village, commenting, "We're in badly need of some form of work in Freshford. Hopefully we will get some relief during the year."
