Over 100 bags of rubbish removed from side of Kilkenny road

Volunteers went out on mass to clean-up a section of road near Mullinavat last week

Over 100 bags of rubbish removed from side of Kilkenny road

Over 100 bags of litter were removed from the sides of the R448 on the southern side of Mullinavat as far as the L74121 (Thompson's Lane) on Friday.

The clean-up was a collaborative venture between local volunteers and Kilkenny County Council. The Council provided two trucks with four men who operated a stop/go traffic management system to enable the volunteers to complete their work safely.

The six local volunteers - Stephen Croke, John Farrell, Patrick Prendergast, Peter Purcell, Patricia Ryan and Tomás Breathnach - would like to acknowledge the support of the Area Engineer, Stan Cullen, the Area Office and the Environment Section of the Council for this initiative and also thank the area staff for their courtesy, assistance and professionalism during the time spent with them on the R448 while the clean-up was being completed.

Great credit is also due to Siobhán O’Brien who cleared the Glendonnell Road of seven bags of litter down as far as the old creamery on Friday morning.
