Flooding today in Graignamanagh, County Kilkenny

Emergency crews have been deployed to flooding in Graignamanagh, County Kilkenny, with Main Street currently closed as council staff work to pump water from a number of affected buildings.

With more rain forecast for Tuesday and river levels under pressure, locals are being urged to take precautions as Storm Chandra moves through, bringing a renewed flooding risk across parts of the county.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain warning for Kilkenny from 00:00 to 23:00 on Tuesday (January 27), warning that bands of rain linked to Storm Chandra will be “heavy and persistent”, with potential impacts including localised flooding, river flooding and difficult travel conditions.

A Status Yellow Wind Warning is also in place for Kilkenny from 05:00 to 23:00 Tuesday, with Met Éireann warning of very strong and gusty winds, particularly in exposed areas.

Kilkenny County Council says sandbags are being made available to the public at the following locations:

Graignamanagh (corner of Quay and Bridge)
Thomastown (Fire Station)
Callan (outside Council Depot at Goatsbridge)
Inistioge (corner beside the River Green)
Freshford (The Square)
Castlecomer (Donaguile Depot)
Ballyragget (The Green)
Gowran (Kilkenny CoCo Woodquarter Depot)
Johnstown (Kilkenny CoCo Depot)
Newrath Depot
Rathkieran Depot
The Sweep Depot
Gaol Road Depot, Kilkenny City
People are again being urged not to drive through floodwater, to avoid closed roads, and to monitor official updates as conditions develop.
