Frances Whelan

The death has occurred of M.F. (Frances) Whelan, Pineridge, Summerhill, Wexford, late of Grangecon, Co. Wicklow and Kilkenny. Frances passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Wexford General Hospital. Predeceased by her brother Jimmy and her sister-in-law Imelda. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her sister Catherine (Carlow), her brothers Andrew, Christopher and their families, her nieces Laura, Maria and Emma and nephews Conor, David and John, her grandnieces Katie, Molly, Indie and Freya and her grandnephews Rían and Bobby. Her close cousins Catherine, Christopher and Pam (London), Colette (Leicester), Angela (Baltinglass) and Colette (Navan). Her many precious friends at home and abroad.

Frances had a commitment to donate her remains to science and this wish is being respected. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday,  October 25, at 11am in Oliver Plunkett Church, Grangecon, Co. Wicklow EIRCODE A42 YY91 and in Bride

Thomas (Tommy) Rice

The death has occurred of Thomas (Tommy) Rice, Stoney Bridge, Piltown, Kilkenny. Tommy passed away peacefully on the October 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Pre-deceased by his son Nigel, brothers and sisters, sadly missed by his loving wife Phyllis, children Loraine, Alison and Colin, brother Brendan, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren Ben, Thomas, Joshua, Paul, Jamie, Amy and Caitlin, great grandchildren, son-in-law Simon, daughter-in-law Lesley, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Thomas will be reposing at Walsh's Funeral Home, New Street, Carrick-on-Suir on Monday, October 27, from 5pm to 6pm. Thomas will be arriving at the church of the Assumption, Piltown, Co Kilkenny on Tuesday, October 28, for requiem mass on arrival at 11am followed by Cremation at 2pm in the Island Crematorium, Cork. Brid (Bridget) Quigley (née Wall)

The death has occurred of Brid (Bridget) Quigley (née Wall), Dean Cavanagh Place, Kilkenny City, peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 surrounded by her loving and caring family in the exceptional care of all the staff in St. Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny. Predeceased by her parents Patrick and Catherine, her devoted husband Sean and her siblings Eileen, Ann, Lil and Paddy. Brid will be deeply missed by her adored sons John and Pat, daughter-in-law Frances, grandchildren Sean, Aoife, Laoighseach, Ailish, Maeve and their partners. Forever missed by her 13 adored great grandchildren, brothers Michael and Jim, sister-in-law Ann (Wall) nieces, nephews, extended family, loyal neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Brid will repose at Shasby’s Funeral Home, Kilkenny City on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm with rosary and vigil prayers at 5.30pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday (25th) at 11am in St. Mary’s Cathedral followed by burial in St. Kieran’s Cemetery. For those unable to attend you may view the Requiem Mass here Brid’s Funeral cortege will walk to her residence en route to the cemetery.

Ger (Geraldine) Power (née Hoban)

The death has occurred of Ger (Geraldine) Power (née Hoban), Carrickmourne, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny and formerly of Dangan Terrace, Thomastown, peacefully at her home with her loving family. Predeceased by her parents Peggy and Larry Hoban. Sadly missed by her husband Richie, son Cliff, daughter Natasha, grandchildren Calvin, Bailey, Finn and Evie, brother Lar Hoban, sisters Mary and Margaret, son-in-law Sean Redmond and daughter-in-law Christine Power, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Bridie Peoples (née Joyce)

The death has occurred of Bridie Peoples (née Joyce), Barnfield, Corroy, Ballina, Co Mayo and formerly of The Islands, Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny. Peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a short illness that she faced with bravery and dignity. Bridie predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, brothers Pat and Fr. Jer. Sadly missed by her loving husband of 46 years John, devoted daughters Eimear and Áine, sisters Mary Hogan (Mooncoin, Kilkenny), Kathleen Ryan (Tullogher, Kilkenny), Anna Kelly (Lisnagry, Limerick) brother Tom Joyce (Thurles, Tipperary), nieces, nephews, extended family and her wide circle of friends.

Reposing at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina (Eircode F26 V274) on Thursday, October 23, from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Funeral will arrive to St. Teresa’s Church, Rathduff on Friday, October 24, at 12noon for Requiem Mass with funeral proceeding to Ballinahaglish Cemetery, Knockmore for burial. Anne Leigh (née Lawless)

The death has occurred of Anne Leigh (née Lawless), London, England. Formerly of Tramore, Co Waterford and Dublin Road, Kilkenny. Sadly passed away in Kings College Hospital, London on Sunday, October 19, 2025. It is with great sadness she leaves her loving family, daughter Janet and son Kevin, her grandchildren Jonathon, Dominic, Emilia, Isabel, Franek and Filip, son-in-law Frank and daughter-in-law Jola, her sister Peggy, brother-in-law Matt and all her nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her husband James, her parents Edward and Margaret, her brothers Edward and James and her sister Mary.

Anne will be repatriated to Callan, where a Requiem Mass and Burial will take place in the coming weeks. Funeral arrangements later.

Nuala Donovan (née Gibbons)

The death has occurred of Nuala Donovan (née Gibbons), Lawcus Fields, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny. Nuala passed away on October 21, 2025, at home in the loving arms of her family after a long illness, borne with tremendous dignity and courage. She never lost her positivity and joy for life. Beloved mother of St. John, Louise and Brian. Predeceased by her dearly loved husband, St.John, her sister, Agnes (Gibbons White) and her parents Michael and Ann Gibbons. Deeply mourned by her children and by her sisters and brothers. Sadly missed by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, extended family, local community, dear neighbours, and by her many friends.

Reposing in Johnston's Funeral Home, John's Green, Kilkenny (R95 XE00) on Thursday (23rd Oct) from 5pm to 7pm pausing for Rosary and Vigil Prayers at 6.30pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11am in St. Brendan's Church, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny. Private cremation will take place on Saturday, October 25.
