Among the discarded items in recent days are an oil tank
The scourge of illegal dumping continues unabated across Kilkenny, demoralising communities and scarring our scenic natural amenities.
This week’s front page reveals a shocking fly-tipping hotspot in South Kilkenny. It has been described as ‘an epidemic’ of dumping of building and mechanical waste at the scenic Corbally Wood, Templeorum, Piltown, reaching a level previously unseen.
Among the discarded items in recent days are an oil tank, what looks like builder’s waste, and used children’s toys.
State-owned forestry body Coillte’s environmental department must now investigate the detritus in an attempt to determine its providence.

If a culprit can be identified, they must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If anyone from the locality has any tips or information, they should contact gardaí and Coillte to assist with the investigation.
Meanwhile, in order to prevent any further fly-tipping occurrences, the relevant gates need to be fully locked, and proper security cameras should be put in place to deter and identify potential offenders.
Danesfort delight
What a week it has been for Danesfort!
There was great excitement at the local club on Saturday when the new clubhouse and gymnasium were officially opened. Then, on Sunday, the club became intermediate Leinster champions.
With inclement weather in their faces for the first half, they went into the break six points down. It took serious resolve and determination to fight back and save the dream late on. Congratulations to all.
Hard luck also to beaten finalists Shamrocks (Ballyhale) who just came up short against St Martin’s. Onward and upwards.
Finally, best of luck to the Muckalee ladies in the All-Ireland final where they will play Cromane of Kerry on Sunday.
