It was a grand day for a party as a Kilkenny man received a century of good wishes.
Archersrath Nursing Home was in full celebration mode as Nicholas Carrigan was honoured with a party to mark his 100th birthday.
Nicholas has lived an extraordinary life, rich in work, travel, love and experience. He spent many years as a farmer and worked for Massey Ferguson here in Ireland and also in London, building a life through hard work and dedication.
Nicholas travelled widely across Europe, witnessing countries being rebuilt after the Second World War. His curiosity and openness to the world took him further, to Egypt, where he saw the pyramids, and across Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Norway.

He married Eileen, the love of his life, and together they travelled to Australia, spending weeks at the sea, crossing half the world by boat, where he raised a family.
Around 20 years ago, Nicholas returned home to care for his wife. He did so with devotion and compassion, showing what true love means.
His life was also filled with further travel across Asia, New Zealand, China, and Thailand. Always curious, always engaged with the world.
Nicholas often says he has lived a wonderful life and truly treasures every moment of it. He believes people should take opportunities when they come and never settle for less.
A great lover of nature, birds and farm animals, Nicholas always had a small terrier dog by side, a quiet but constant companion.
"Here in our home, Nicholas is a valued and important member," said Banu Domgala, Director of Nursing at Archersrath Nursing Home. "His presence, routines and life experience enrich us all.
"Today, we celebrate not just 100 years, but a life deeply lived."
Alongside the cake and cheers was a letter from President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, plus the attendance of a special guest - Mayor of Kilkenny, Cllr John Coonan.
"As Mayor, I get invited to many events, but receiving an invitation to celebrate a 100th birthday is something truly special," he said.
"Congratulations Nicholas on your magnificent milestone,” he added. “You have seen Kilkenny and the world change in ways most of us can only imagine.
"Today we honour your journey, your wisdom and your presence in our community. On behalf of the people of Kilkenny I wish you the very best on this momentous day."
